Vaccination Services of America™ (VSA) is licensed to deliver onsite vaccinations with the help of licensed nurses and other healthcare professionals throughout the U.S., appropriate to federal, state and county guidelines.

Organization is the key to the success of on-site vaccination programs especially for larger and multiple site companies. VSA offers a proprietary Online Employee Sign-up Application. This online application allows employees to pick their own appointment slot, receive automatic confirmation and reminder emails, pre-print consent and release forms, reschedule and cancel appointments, outlook calendar integration, wait lists, advanced reporting functions and much more. This application is used by many Fortune 100 clients across the U.S.

VSA has already placed their first order of flu vaccine for fall 2007. To accommodate your vaccination requests with VSA we will continue to order vaccine as needed. But, we encourage you to book your event early.

When to Get Flu Shots

VSA/HFA, with its good reputation, has secured flu vaccine from all three pharmaceutical manufacturers for the upcoming 2007 flu vaccination season. In Janaury, VSA/HFA worked directly with two flu vaccine manufacturers to help assure a reliable and secure supply of flu vaccine this coming season. This direct relationship helps to assure timely shipments of flu vaccine.

The three manufacturers for the upcoming flu vaccination season remain Glaxo (GSK), Sanofi Pasteur, and Chiron. Sanofi Pasteur is expected to produce again over 50 million doses. The other two manufacturers are expected to produce at least as much as the previous year.

Glaxo is producing flu vaccine again this year that is only approved for people 18 and over (adults). Whereas, Sanofi Pasteur produces flu vaccine that is approved for 6 months or older, and Chiron for 4 years or over. Glaxo's vaccine is only available in a pre-filled syringe. Vials are expected to be available in the next flu vaccination season 2007-08. Please Note, HFA/VSA only vaccinates adults 18 years and older.

If scheduled in advance, clients are not committed to an exact date and order quantity, and may adjust their orders. However, dates and quantity must be confirmed at least 15 days prior to the flu shot clinic. Changes made within 15 days of the clinic will incur a charge.

Flu season in the U.S. is usually from November until April, with peak activity between late December and early March. Adults develop peak antibody protection about two weeks after vaccination. Therefore, the optimal time to receive vaccinations is considered to be during October and November. ACIP recommends that vaccination efforts through October focus on those at greatest risk for flu-related complications and healthcare workers, and that vaccination of other groups begin in November.

Vaccination efforts for all groups should continue into December and later, for as long as vaccine is available. You should not receive a flu shot too far in advance because the antibodies may begin to decline a few months after vaccination.

Tetanus/Diphtheria Immunization
Tetanus is an acute, often fatal, disease that is caused by the poison of a certain bacteria. The bacteria usually enters the body through a wound. Stiff muscles and convulsive spasms are characteristic. The stiffness often begins in the jaw (lockjaw) and neck. Diphtheria might also be considered poisonous bacterium.

Adults need a Td booster shot every 10 years, assuming they had the initial doses as a child. Many adults forget and do not get their boosters until they are injured and realize it's overdue.

Hepatitis B Shots
Hepatitis B is a serious disease that can cause short-term illness with symptoms of tiredness, loss of appetite, diarrhea and vomiting, jaundice (yellow skin or eyes), and pain in muscles, joints and the stomach. It can also cause long-term illness leading to liver damage (cirrhosis), liver cancer, and death. Hepatitis B vaccine is considered the first anti-cancer vaccine because it can prevent Hepatitis B, and therefore prevents a form of liver cancer. This immunization is recommended for most children and adolescents through age 18, and for at risk adults. It requires a series of 3 shots.

About 1.25 people in the U.S.have chronic Hepatitis B infection. It is estimated that 200,000 people become infected with Hepatitis B (mostly young adults), more than 11,000 have to be hospitalized because of it, and 4,000-5,000 die from it each year.

Pneumococcal Polysaccharide
Pneumococcal disease kills more people in the United Stated each year than all other vaccine-preventable diseases combined. Pneumococcal disease can lead to serious infections of the lungs (pneumonia), the blood (bacteremia), and the covering of the brain (meningitis).

Anyone can get the disease, however some people are at greater risk. These include people 65 and older, the very young, and people with special health problems such as alcoholism, heart or lung disease, kidney failure, diabetes, HIV infection, or certain types of cancer.
